The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has emphasized the need for deeper collaboration between Nigeria and the European Union in the areas of defence and security.
According to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Sani Datti, the minister made the call during a courtesy visit by Casimir Dirban, Director of Peace, Partnership, and Crisis Management at the European External Action Service in Brussels.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, focused on enhancing cooperation to address shared security challenges, including terrorism and banditry.
Badaru highlighted the importance of a strategic and deliberate approach to expanding Nigeria’s defence partnerships, particularly with the European Union to tackle the evolving threats to regional stability.
Dirban, who was accompanied by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Samuela Isopi, reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security efforts.
He also acknowledged the longstanding bilateral ties between both parties and expressed optimism for a stronger and more effective collaboration going forward.
