The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been honoured with the Best Corporate Spokesperson Team award at the 5th National Spokespersons Awards 2025, recognizing its outstanding achievements in strategic communication and public engagement.
The award ceremony, hosted at the Ladi Kwali Conference Centre, Abuja Continental Hotel, was organized by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) under the theme “Voice of Influence, Champions of Change".
Receiving the award on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, attributed the recognition to the hard work, professionalism, and collaborative efforts of the entire NCS public relations team.
“This award represents the shared commitment of our team to uphold transparency, manage our public image responsibly, and engage constructively with stakeholders.
"It is a testament to the culture of teamwork and strategic communication we have nurtured over time.
The NCS also clinched a similar honour at the 2024 edition, highlighting its consistency in setting high standards in institutional communication.
“Being recognized again this year reinforces our dedication to impactful public engagement and building public trust. Maiwada added.
The event drew distinguished guests from across the public relations and media landscape, including past and serving Ministers of Information such as Frank Nweke Jr., Lai Mohammed, Jerry Gana, Labaran Maku, and the current Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris.
Also in attendance were Chief Segun Osoba, former Ogun State Governor and veteran journalist; Professor Taiwo Oyedele, Chair of the Presidential Committee on Tax Reform; Professor Tonnie Iredia, founder of the Tonnie Iredia University of Communication; and Dr. Nkechi Ali-Balogun, Managing Director of NECCI Consult.
Other notable guests included Mallam Mahmud Jega, Editor-in-Chief of 21st Century Chronicle; Chief Adetokunboh Modupe, Chairman and CEO of TPT International; Ike Neliaku, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations; and Honourable Joshua Audi Gana.
The NCS emphasized that the award serves as further motivation to maintain excellence in public service communication and to deepen its engagement with stakeholders through transparency and accountability.
