The Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, held an operational briefing with the Chief of Defence Staff CDS and Service Chiefs at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, focusing on the country’s pressing security concerns.
According to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Sani Datti, the meeting was convened to provide the Minister with an in-depth assessment of the current national security landscape and the strategic efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in tackling various threats.
The briefing covered the security situation in key flashpoints, including the North East, North West, North Central, Plateau State, and the South East areas most affected by insurgency, banditry, and communal violence. Discussions focused on enhancing ongoing military operations, strengthening intelligence coordination, improving inter-agency collaboration, and optimising resource deployment to restore peace and stability.
"The situation in Borno and Plateau states received particular attention, with strategies discussed to counter emerging threats and restore normalcy.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Armed Forces in developing and implementing effective strategies to address the country’s complex security challenges.
He also restated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering support for the military and called for a more proactive, intelligence-led, and community-based approach to national security.
“This operational briefing has provided me with a clearer understanding of the realities on the ground, complementing what I observed during my recent field visits,” the Minister said.
He commended the Armed Forces for their resilience and outlined the government’s resolve to equip the military with the necessary tools, policies, and support needed to secure the nation.
“We are determined to support our gallant troops and ensure that every Nigerian lives in safety and dignity,” he added.
The meeting also served as a platform for the military leadership to present their ongoing efforts and strategic plans in line with their constitutional mandate to protect the lives and property of citizens.
