The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in the Lake Chad Basin.
Speaking at the 5th meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum in Maiduguri, General Musa emphasized the need for unity among regional leaders and stakeholders to foster stability and development.
In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, General Musa described the meeting as timely and pledged the Armed Forces’ unwavering support in addressing security challenges in the region.
He assured the governors of the military’s readiness to assist in tackling insurgency and other threats affecting communities in the Lake Chad area.
The CDS also highlighted the importance of reintegrating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back into their communities, stressing that a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies is crucial in combating criminal activities effectively.
He urged leaders at all levels to collaborate closely in overcoming security challenges and ensuring long-term peace.
The high-profile gathering was attended by Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside the Governors of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa States, as well as their counterparts from Niger Republic, Chad, and Cameroon.
