The Commander of Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral John Okeke responsible for safeguarding the South-South region, has reassured stakeholders about the welfare and operational readiness of troops under his command.
While addressing the media at Army Headquarters in Bayelsa today when asked about the welfare of troops, the commander highlighted the achievements and challenges in the region and addressed recent concerns about the morale and living conditions of military personnel.
He reaffirmed the military leadership's unwavering commitment to ensuring the well-being of all officers and soldiers serving in the mission.
The commander acknowledged the challenging environment in which the troops operate but highlighted the significant steps taken to enhance their welfare, these include the provision of adequate accommodations, medical facilities, and consistent supplies of essential resources.
He noted that regular engagements with the troops have been instituted to address grievances promptly and maintain high morale.
"We understand the sacrifices our personnel are making to secure the region, and their welfare remains our top priority.
"The Nigerian Armed Forces are committed to ensuring that they are well-equipped and motivated to perform their duties effectively.
"Operation Delta Safe, established to combat oil theft, illegal bunkering, and other criminal activities in the region, plays a crucial role in ensuring national security and economic stability, he added
The commander reiterated the importance of cooperation between the military, host communities, and other stakeholders in achieving sustainable peace and development.
The commander urged the public to disregard unfounded reports about neglect of troops welfare, describing such claims as misinformation aimed at undermining the military’s efforts.
"Our troops remain resilient, committed, and focused on the mission, We will continue to prioritize their welfare as they work to secure the South-South region for the benefit of all Nigerians," he affirmed.
This reassurance is expected to bolster public confidence in the military’s operations and support for the troops on the frontlines of Operation Delta Safe.
