Brigadier General Abdulraheem Bello, Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee for the 2024 African Military Games, has lauded the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, for spearheading the transformation of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The facility, which had been in a state of disrepair for years, has undergone significant upgrades under the CDS’s leadership, providing a much-needed boost to the preparation of military athletes.
Speaking to journalists, Brig. Gen. Bello expressed his appreciation for the initiative, noting that the modernized stadium now offers state of the art infrastructure, benefiting athletes from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy.
“The stadium facilities were in a poor state, but through General Christopher Musa’s visionary leadership, they have been completely revitalized.
"This transformation is a game-changer, creating an ideal environment for rigorous training and preparation.”
Bello emphasized that the improvements have raised the standard of the stadium, ensuring it meets global expectations. He expressed confidence that the upgraded facilities would enhance the performance of Nigeria’s military teams and reinforce the country’s prominence in military sports.
The Acting Director of Physical Training for the Nigerian Army also commended the CDS’s dedication to advancing sports infrastructure, describing it as pivotal to boosting both the morale and performance of the athletes.
“The African Military Games are a major event for the Nigerian Armed Forces,” he stated. “With these upgrades, our athletes are better equipped and motivated to excel in this international competition.”
Bello further highlighted the positive reception from athletes across the continent. “Teams from various African countries have expressed their admiration for the upgraded facilities, praising the professionalism they bring to the games.”
The revitalized Moshood Abiola National Stadium is now a source of pride for Nigeria, providing a platform for the nation’s military athletes to train and compete at an elite level while fostering camaraderie among participating nations.
