The Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria BON has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their significant strides in tackling insecurity across the country. This acknowledgment follows a series of victories achieved by the military in countering insurgency and banditry.

During a courtesy visit to the Minister of Defence at Ship House in Abuja, BON’s Chairman, Comrade Salihu Dembos, represented by Vice Chairman High Chief Tony Akiotu, applauded the Minister’s leadership in coordinating efforts to secure the nation.

Akiotu highlighted the collaborative approach that has been instrumental in reducing security threats.

"The new synergy between the Ministry of Defence and other security agencies has played a critical role in containing insurgents and curbing banditry throughout the country".

He further emphasized that BON, which represents over 500 licensed television and radio stations across Nigeria’s 36 states and Abuja, has observed the military’s continued successes over the past year.

He praised the Armed Forces for their relentless efforts, which have led to the arrest of high-profile criminals and the restoration of relative peace in previously affected areas.

Akiotu also acknowledged the dual use of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies by the Ministry of Defence and other security agencies, noting that this comprehensive approach has been crucial to the success of recent military operations.

In a remarks, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, outlined the progress made in the fight against insurgency, attributing much of the success to the joint efforts of the military and security agencies.

The Minister praised the Armed Forces for their dedication and noted that security breaches have significantly diminished due to heightened military operations.

"The Armed Forces have shown unparalleled commitment in tackling the security challenges confronting the nation.

"We are witnessing major victories, with insurgents being neutralized and high-profile bandits apprehended.

"These actions have not only enhanced security but also restored public confidence in affected regions.

He emphasized the ongoing collaboration between various security forces, affirming that the government remains focused on ensuring lasting peace and stability.

The Minister further expressed appreciation for the role of the media in shaping public opinion and raising awareness on national security matters.

In response to BON’s proposal for collaboration in capacity building and training for broadcast professionals, the Minister expressed his willingness to partner with the organization.

He acknowledged the media’s vital role in promoting security through education and awareness, and he expressed optimism about the potential of radio and television platforms to foster national unity and security.
