Minister of State Embarks on Extensive Security Tour of Region

Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, has reassured the people of the North West that the Federal Government remains fully committed to restoring peace and security in the region and across Nigeria.


During a security assessment tour of Sokoto State, Dr. Matawalle emphasized that the government would not rest until insecurity was eliminated. This tour forms part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to address the security challenges facing the North West.


Speaking during his visit to Gundumi village, the Minister announced plans to reopen the long-closed Gundumi-Isa road, with the establishment of a military camp along the route to ensure the safety of residents and revive economic activities. "The President is determined to bring an end to insecurity in the North, and we are leaving no stone unturned," Dr. Matawalle assured.


In the Isa Local Government Area, the Minister urged local communities to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies. He also visited Turba village, where he pledged that more military personnel would be deployed to reinforce security in the area.


Dr. Matawalle praised the troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Birni for their dedication and resilience. He promised to address their welfare needs and ensure they have the necessary logistical support.


While in Sabon Birni, the Minister encouraged the local population to cooperate with security forces and pray for the nation's defenders. He also revealed plans to establish a military base between Sabon Birni and Tsamaye to strengthen security along critical routes.


The Minister visited additional villages impacted by banditry, including Hawan Duro and Mai Lalle, where he promised an increased military presence to facilitate the safe return of displaced residents.


In Goronyo Local Government Area, Dr. Matawalle reiterated the Federal Government's resolve to establish military camps along key routes, while also acknowledging the support of the Sokoto State Government.


Throughout his tour, Dr. Matawalle highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security across Northern Nigeria. He expressed gratitude for the sacrifices of military personnel and called on communities to continue their cooperation with security agencies.


Accompanying the Honourable Minister were the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, senior government officials, and top military officers, underscoring the coordinated efforts to secure the region.


The Federal Government remains determined to rid the North West of banditry, with the deployment of additional troops and the establishment of new military bases offering hope for lasting peace in the region.
