The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, paid a visit to the 146 Battalion (Main) on Bonny Island, as part of his inaugural tour of the Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe.
The Minister praised the battalion for its effective protection of critical national infrastructure, particularly the Trans Niger Pipelines (TNP).
He highlighted the battalion's success in securing the pipelines, emphasizing its importance in maintaining national economic stability.
"The successful protection of the Trans Niger Pipelines under your jurisdiction is a clear indication of your hard work and commitment.
"Your continuous efforts in safeguarding these vital assets are commendable, and I encourage you to keep up the momentum.
The Minister further acknowledged the battalion's role in combating economic sabotage, such as oil theft and illegal refineries, noting the operational effectiveness that has ensured the pipelines remain unbleached.
Lieutenant Colonel OA Oyewumi, Commanding Officer of the 146 Battalion, briefed the Minister on the unit’s operations, underscoring the strategic importance of securing the TNP, which facilitates the daily transport of crude oil without external interference.
Oyewumi also outlined the battalion’s successes in protecting other vital oil and gas installations, as well as thwarting attempts at pipeline vandalism.
