Contrary to the false reports circulating online and in certain newspapers, no legal case has been instituted against the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
These reports, which suggest a case seeking to compel the federal government to investigate him following allegations made by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, have been found to be baseless.
An investigation, which included visits to various Federal High Courts in Abuja, revealed no record of any such case. It is particularly concerning that these reports fail to mention any specific court, judge, or registrar associated with the alleged suit, raising doubts about their credibility.
An investigative journalist described the claims of a lawsuit as unfounded, emphasizing that no legal notice has been served to Matawalle.
He further noted that the lawsuit filed by human rights activist Abubakar Dahiru, which accuses Matawalle of involvement in banditry, is simply another attempt by Governor Lawal to tarnish Matawalle’s reputation, particularly in light of his growing political influence both in Zamfara and across Nigeria.
It was recalled that Governor Dauda Lawal previously accused his predecessor, Matawalle, of sponsoring banditry and harboring terrorists at the Zamfara State Government House.
In response, the investigative journalist dismissed these allegations and challenged the governor to provide evidence to substantiate his claims.
The journalist went on to criticize Governor Lawal’s continuous efforts to discredit Dr. Matawalle, suggesting that these actions are part of a broader strategy to block his re-appointment as a minister in light of an upcoming cabinet reshuffle.
He also noted that Governor Lawal is reportedly engaging in "forum shopping" seeking a court order through improper means. However, court officials have not been swayed by such tactics, and any attempt to manipulate the judiciary would be unsuccessful.
The journalist condemned these actions, describing them as a smear campaign aimed at undermining a fellow Zamfara indigene holding a crucial position in the federal government.
The public is urged to remain cautious of misleading information coming from Governor Lawal or his associates, and to disregard any unfounded allegations.
