The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, has officially inaugurated the National Planning Committee (NPC) to oversee preparations for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrations (AFRDC).
During the inauguration, Dr. Kana emphasized the Federal Government's deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, recognizing their ultimate contribution in ensuring the continued unity and security of the nation.
He urged the committee to develop initiatives that not only reflect the heroism of the fallen but also promote the patriotism they displayed. "They have sacrificed their lives for the peace and security of our nation, and they deserve to be celebrated with utmost respect and gratitude," Dr. Kana stated, representing the Honourable Minister of Defence.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is held annually on January 15th to honor Nigeria’s fallen heroes and acknowledge the contributions of its veterans. It is also an opportunity to recognize the roles played by all security agencies in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty.
Dr. Kana further noted, "This event not only pays tribute to our Armed Forces but also to the broader security community that contributes to the safety of our country. We must ensure that this occasion both honors their work and serves as a source of inspiration for future generations to continue this noble mission".
Key activities planned for the 2025 celebrations include a ministerial briefing, the Nigerian Legion Humanitarian Day, the Presidential Emblem Appeal Launch, Juma'at prayers, an interdenominational church service, and the wreath-laying ceremony, which will take place on January 15th, 2025.
