In a significant boost to security efforts in Northwest Nigeria, the Nigerian military has successfully neutralized Halilu Buzu Sububu, a notorious bandit leader. This accomplishment marks a crucial step forward in the ongoing battle against banditry in the region.
The breakthrough comes shortly after the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle MON, moved the Command and Control Centre to Sokoto, following directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
This strategic move aligns with President Tinubu’s comprehensive plan to restore peace and security to the Northwest. Dr. Matawalle, alongside senior military officials, has been actively engaged in executing the President's security agenda. The elimination of Halilu Sububu represents a significant milestone in these efforts.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is delivering on his commitment to the Northwest. The neutralization of this notorious bandit leader is evidence of the progress we are making,” Dr. Matawalle remarked.
The Minister extended his appreciation to the Nigerian Army and all security agencies involved in the successful operation, emphasizing their dedication and resolve as pivotal to the mission's ongoing success. He reiterated that while the fight against banditry is far from over, the government remains unwavering in its commitment.
“We will not rest until every part of the Northwest is free from the menace of banditry. Under President Tinubu's leadership, the military is on a decisive mission, and we will continue to intensify our efforts,” Dr. Matawalle stated.
The successful operations have been widely celebrated across the zone, particularly in Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto states, where communities have long suffered from the threat of banditry. Residents, including farmers, traders, and businesspeople—among the hardest hit—have expressed their gratitude to President Tinubu, Dr. Matawalle, and the military for their continued efforts.
“The sense of relief and joy in these communities is evident. This victory marks a turning point and sends a strong message to other criminal elements that they will be brought to justice,” Dr. Matawalle added.
The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing operations in the region, with a focus on neutralizing all bandit leaders and their networks to secure lasting peace and stability for the people of Northwest Nigeria.
