The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, paid a visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, to offer condolences to the state government and traditional leadership following recent devastating floods.
General Musa met with His Excellency, Governor Babagana Zulum, and the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garba, to express his sympathy and pledge continued military assistance in addressing the crisis.
General Musa extended his condolences to the people of Borno, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the floods and the difficulties in managing such disasters.
He expressed hope that such tragedies would not reoccur and reassured the governor of the military's ongoing commitment to provide support in mitigating the effects of the flooding.
Governor Zulum expressed his profound gratitude to General Musa and the military for their swift response to the disaster.
" I acknowledged the military's crucial role in rescue operations, noting that without their intervention, the loss of life could have been significantly higher.
The governor also mentioned that he had relayed Borno State's appreciation to the President, emphasizing the military's essential contributions during this critical time.
Additionally, Zulum highlighted the improved security situation in the state, stating that peace was gradually returning to Borno.
At the Shehu of Borno’s palace, General Musa offered prayers for the victims of the flood, both those who lost their lives and those whose livelihoods were impacted.
The CDS thanked the Shehu for his continuous prayers and support, affirming that Borno remains a priority for the Armed Forces.
The Shehu, expressed his gratitude to the CDS and his team for their efforts in assisting flood victims. He praised the Theater Commander and his team for their unrelenting commitment to providing relief to the affected communities.
General Musa, was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and representatives of the Naval Staff and Defence Intelligence, addressed troops in Maiduguri.
He commended them for their rapid response during the floods and emphasized that although significant progress had been made, more work was required to help the state recover.
General Musa encouraged the troops to remain focused on their primary duties and not be distracted by the challenges posed by the disaster.
General Musa also conveyed the President’s appreciation for the troops' bravery and dedication.
He assured them that the military would continue to provide the necessary resources and equipment to carry out their tasks effectively.
He also pledging to address the welfare needs of the soldiers to meet the evolving demands of their duties.
