The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, conducted an operational visit to Port Harcourt, the headquarters of OPERATION DELTA SAFE (OPDS) On July 31, 2024, in response to a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The President has tasked General Musa with coordinating military and security agencies to enhance oil production and stimulate economic activity in Nigeria.
During his visit, General Musa addressed the joint operational commanders, urging them to carry out the presidential directive with patriotism and diligence. He assured them that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) would provide all necessary support to fulfill this mandate. This marks the CDS's second visit to the Niger Delta within two weeks to ensure adherence to the directive.
Earlier, General Musa met with service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, heads of security agencies, and key stakeholders. They collectively agreed to collaborate in boosting oil production as instructed by the President.
Upon arrival, General Musa was welcomed by Rear Admiral John Okeke, the Joint Task Force Commander of OPDS, and Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the land component commander and General Officer Commanding 6 Division.
The operational commanders briefed the CDS on their plans. General Musa was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Intelligence, the Chiefs of Operations of Defence and Services Headquarters, and Major General Jami'u Jimoh, the newly appointed DHQ Monitoring Team Leader.
