The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (FMHAPA) has established a 15-member Committee to spearhead reform coordination and innovation within the Ministry. This initiative aligns with the efforts of Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, CFR, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, to elevate the Federal Civil Service to a world-class standard through the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 (FCSSIP 25).
The Committee was inaugurated in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Abel Enitan, who emphasized the importance of fostering creativity among staff. He encouraged all employees to embrace innovation in their daily operations, noting that service delivery should transcend tribal affiliations and personal interests.
"Innovation in the public sector signifies substantial improvements in public administration and services, involving the implementation of new and enhanced processes, methods, or services aimed at refining the public sector,"
Mr. Enitan also urged the Committee members, selected from various Departments of the Ministry, to diligently adhere to their Terms of Reference and perform their duties with utmost dedication.
In addition to inaugurating the Committee, Mr. Enitan presented awards to outstanding staff members for punctuality and exemplary dressing. He emphasized that such recognition, to be held biannually, aims to motivate other staff. "Punctuality enhances service efficiency, while proper dressing promotes a positive organizational image," he remarked.
Mr. Enitan expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, and Barry Odii, Director of the Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement (RC&SI) Department, for their efforts in initiating these innovative ideas. He also challenged all departments to engage in transformative programs.
Mr. Barry Odii, Director of RC&SI, highlighted that the Committee was formed to bring together talented individuals to enhance service delivery and promote innovation within the Public Service. The Committee comprises officers on Salary Grade levels 13 to 15, experienced in public service operations. He noted that the Committee aims to foster teamwork across departments, moving away from isolated efforts towards collaborative problem-solving for effective service delivery.
Mrs. Gloria C. Azoro, Deputy Director of the Civil Service Transformation Department (CSTD) - OHCSF, commended the Ministry for selecting capable individuals to lead the Innovation agenda. She also congratulated the awardees for their exceptional performance, expressing optimism that such innovations will inspire many officers to excel.
