The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja has reported significant achievements by its troops over the past week, including the elimination of 177 terrorists and the arrest of 263 individuals. In addition to these actions, troops detained 41 suspects involved in oil theft and prevented oil theft amounting to over N501 million. They also recovered 170 assorted weapons and 4,692 rounds of ammunition.
Maj-Gen Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), emphasized the military's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and various forms of insecurity across the nation.
"Our mission in the ongoing conflict is clear, and we are making notable progress," he stated.
In the past week, troops neutralized 177 terrorists, arrested 263 suspects, apprehended 41 individuals for oil theft, and rescued 158 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, they prevented oil theft estimated at N501,089,400.
The troops also seized a substantial cache of weapons, including 6 PKT guns, 63 AK47 rifles, 3 FN rifles, one SMG rifle, 29 locally fabricated guns, 37 dane guns, 20 pump-action guns, and various other firearms. The ammunition recovered includes 2,100 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,239 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and other assorted munitions.
In the Niger Delta, troops discovered and destroyed 20 dugout pits, 32 boats, 32 storage tanks, 58 cooking ovens, and 49 illegal refining sites. They also confiscated 1,007,115 liters of stolen crude oil and 141,664 liters of illegally refined AGO.
Maj-Gen Buba reaffirmed the military's commitment to intensifying its efforts against terrorism and other threats to national security, stating, "Much has been accomplished, but we remain dedicated to doing more to ensure the safety and security of our citizens."
