Senator John Owan Enoh, the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, has called for an in-depth technical report from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) following the Super Eagles' lackluster performance during the June FIFA window.
The Super Eagles secured only one point out of a possible six, drawing 1-1 with South Africa in Uyo and losing 2-1 to Benin Republic in Abidjan in their third and fourth matches, respectively, in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series.
With just three points out of twelve from their four qualifying games so far, the Super Eagles' chances of securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, appear increasingly slim. Senator Enoh expressed his dissatisfaction with the team's performance, especially in light of the substantial support provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration and the cooperative relationship between the Ministry and the NFF.
"The recent results are unacceptable," Senator Enoh declared. "Despite significant backing from President Tinubu and the high expectations of Nigerian football fans, the Super Eagles have fallen short. The NFF must submit a detailed technical report explaining this poor performance and justify why there should be no consequences for disappointing both the government and the Nigerian people."
Senator Enoh stressed that Nigerian football fans deserve transparency and accountability from the NFF. "Our supporters are passionate and dedicated. They deserve an explanation for why our national team has not met the expected standards since the last AFCON," he added.
