The Benue State House of Assembly has authorized a six-month extension for the caretaker committees overseeing the Local Government Councils. This decision was made following a letter from Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, which was presented to the Assembly by Speaker Chief Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh during today's plenary session.

The governor's letter highlighted that the current caretaker chairmen's terms are set to expire on June 5, 2024. The extension is intended to give the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BESIEC) adequate time to organize and conduct local government council elections.
