The Morningstar Health Foundation launched its mission to provide safe healthcare to rural communities, with a special focus on women and children,On June 31, 2020.
Mrs. Blessing Yakubu, a professional medical worker and founder of the NGO, shared her difficult and painful experiences growing up. "I was the sixth of fifteen children, but twelve of my siblings succumbed to undiagnosed ailments such as jaundice and malaria," she recounted.
Driven by the lack of medical infrastructure and resources in her community, Mrs. Yakubu's passion and pain inspired her to create an organization dedicated to supporting pregnant women and children. Her goal is to reduce maternal and childhood mortality by offering quality healthcare and facilities in rural areas across Africa. "Giving hope to the hopeless," she emphasized.
The Morningstar Health Foundation plans to build fully equipped health facilities in various Nigerian villages and reach out to underserved communities across Africa. The organization seeks partnerships with other groups to improve healthcare in Nigeria. Their first initiative, a medical outreach program, will begin in Nasarawa State in June.
Mr. Tanko Isaac Degasmam, the General Manager and Public Relations Officer of the foundation, outlined a series of events planned for the outreach in different regions. These include preventing maternal mortality, providing education for girls, supporting victims of domestic violence, raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and cancer prevention, advocating for people with disabilities, and offering free medical services.
The foundation also aims to manage and treat HIV/AIDS among key affected populations and deliver healthcare to those affected by natural disasters, including internally displaced persons.
Bridges of Compassion: The Morningstar Health Foundation's Outreach
-The Morningstar Health Foundation has been a beacon of hope for the internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Yobo and Benue states, distributing mosquito nets and providing essential medical care to vulnerable populations. These communities had long suffered from a lack of access to healthcare, leaving them exposed to numerous diseases.
Leading this humanitarian effort was Mrs. Yakubu, a seasoned physician with extensive experience in the health profession. She, along with her dedicated team, shared a deep commitment to improving health outcomes in underserved areas.
-In Gombe state, the Foundation recognized the critical importance of mental health. They organized counseling sessions and support groups specifically for people with disabilities, addressing issues such as isolation, discrimination, and mental health challenges. These initiatives provided a safe space for individuals to share their experiences and find community support.
Through their tireless efforts, the Morningstar Health Foundation has made a significant impact, fostering healthier, more resilient communities and demonstrating the profound difference that compassionate healthcare can make.
-In Abuja, The Morningstar Health Foundation embarked on a mission to combat hunger and malnutrition among the city's most vulnerable populations. The foundation recognized that good health starts with proper nutrition and aimed to provide immediate relief to those in need.
Mrs Yakubu, a dedicated physician with a passion for community service, the foundation's team organized a large-scale food distribution event. Volunteers from all walks of life joined the effort, driven by a shared commitment to support their fellow citizens, essential food items: rice, beans, maize, cooking oil, and fortified cereals. Each package was designed to provide balanced nutrition for a month.
