General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), made significant visits to key figures in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Oba of Lagos, Chief Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu, as part of his operational tour of military formations and consultations with stakeholders on addressing national security challenges.
During his meeting General Musa praised the governor’s efforts to enhance the quality of life in Lagos. He highlighted Lagos's crucial role in Nigeria's economy and its representation of the nation’s diversity.
General Musa also expressed gratitude for the Governor’s hospitality towards Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, noting the importance of their visit to Nigeria.
The CDS commended the governor for the improved security in Lagos and appreciated the allocation of fifty hectares of land in Oshodi to the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre for agricultural development.
General Musa outlined his vision to engage the Armed Forces in large-scale agriculture, aligning with his people-centered philosophy to improve the lives of Nigerians.
General Musa sought the support of the Lagos State government for the proposed Invictus Centre, which aims to aid the recovery of wounded, injured, and traumatized military personnel and veterans.
Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded the military’s efforts, acknowledging a significant decline in criminal activities since General Musa’s appointment as CDS. He also expressed support for the Invictus Centre project and the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which he believes will enhance the morale of wounded soldiers.
In his visit to the palace of the Oba of Lagos, General Musa thanked the traditional ruler for his unwavering support to the Armed Forces. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to securing Lagos.
The Oba of Lagos commended General Musa’s dedication to national security, expressing optimism about the future and gratitude for the military's role in maintaining peace in Lagos.
General Musa’s tour included visits to military formations in Lagos, where he urged personnel to intensify efforts to combat insecurity across the nation.
His engagements in Lagos reflect a comprehensive approach to strengthening security and collaboration between the military and state authorities for the well-being of all Nigerians.
